2004 Festival Wrap-up - Sept. 20-22: - by David Hardin

Ah ... precious memories. From what I remember, here's what happened during the first Port City Animation Festival in September of 2004. We showed 'em. They watched 'em. Over 50 films in three nights. It was a animated barrage of unmatched porportions - at least for Wilmington, anyway. It really was a good time. Crowds grew every night. We had some nice attendance from filmmakers, including Dylan Patterson, Oskar Gambony, Levi Walton, Philip Bryant and the Eric Cerda gang.

Academy-award nominated animator John Dilworth (creator of Courage the Cowardly Dog) came down from NYC and was here for the whole thing. We think he enjoyed himself. At one point, he had underwear on his head while on stage at Thalian Hall. There were no injuries reported.

The audience did a great job too. They laughed at the funny stuff, sat with slient appreciation at the cool stuff and didn't throw rotten tomatoes at the stuff they didn't like.

Extra special thanks goes out Cable Hardin and Tim Vandenberg, who ran the video projection along with Chris Hill who managed to keep the film projectors from eating everything. Super thanks goes to Ann Berry at WHQR, who helped with the publicity, wrangled the guests and schleped all the film prints back to the post office.

Stay tuned for next year. I think we're going to try this again.

The highly amusing (only to themselves) antics of animators John Dilworth and David Hardin on stage

Opening night audience members eagerly await the start of the first film.
