The Port City Animation Festival is a non-competitive
showcase of independent animated films. While we don't offer really fancy
awards, we only show the ones we really like. There is a lot of animation
going on, but not many places to watch and enjoy it with other people.
Sure, you can watch a handful of cartoons on TV or huddle around a
computer monitor and watch cartoons on the Internet, but there's really
nothing like watching movies at a theater. So
there you have it. We find the most creative and entertaining shorts,
mix 'em all together and show them on a big screen.
Last
year, we had over 60 shorts on the program spread over three days,
including two screenings of The
Animation Show, produced by Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeldt.
Special guests: In 2004, world-reknown animator John Dilworth visited us and in 2005, Academy-Award nominated animator
Bill Plympton
was our guest for a one-night only screening!

The
festival held in Wilmington, NC, on North Carolina's coast. The screenings
are held at The
City Stage Theatre in Wilmington's historic district (21 N. Front
St.) located on the Cape Fear River. For driving directions, go here.
